There is a light bulb located UNDERNEATH the ashtray (just lays on the carpet) that illuminates when the ashtray cover is pulled "open". A mini-push switch located at the front of the under-assembly triggers the light.

The ashtray's main use these days is for carrying parking meter change and to look elegant sitting behind your chromed shift lever.

И последнее:
there was a light meant to shine inside the weird popup cigarette lighter so you could find the insertion point in the dark. I don't think it was meant to shine into the ashtray. The whole arrangement was molto weirdo. The very best thing of course is to quit smoking and take out the light.
